It is the intent of the Flyers Skate Zone to provide a fun competitive tournament for all its participants and spectators. Sportsmanship is expected of all participants including coaches and spectators! The use of abusive behavior or language is not permissible! Each coach will be responsible for his/her team to exemplify good sportsmanship at all times.
GAME TIMES
- Games consist of two 25 minute running clock halves for mite and three 12 minute stop time periods for Squirt level
- Pee Wee, and Bantam will play three 13 minutes periods.
- There are NO ice resurfaces between periods.
- All games are to be played to completion.
- There will be a running clock during the third period where there is a goal differential of 7 goals or more. Stop time resumes if the goal differential becomes two goals or less, or for an injury.
- Each game will have a 3-minute warm-up. Warm up time starts when Zamboni doors close
- Each team must be prepared to play 15 minutes before their scheduled start time. If teams are not prepared they will not receive a warm-up.
- If the game is tied at the end of regulation there will be a 1-minute intermission followed by a 3-minute 4 vs. 4 OT. If the game is still tied at the end of OT there will be a 3 man shootout (visiting team will shoot first). If still tied teams will alternate one for one until a winner is determined. ONLY when every player on the team has shot can a player go for a second time.
PENALTIES
- This is a USA Hockey tournament. All USA Hockey rules for penalties shall apply.
- Any player receiving FOUR penalties in one game will be ejected from that game.
- Fighting will not be tolerated and will result in that player being suspended from the tournament.
- Gross Misconducts and Match penalties will also result in suspension from the tournament.
- Mite penalties will be rewarded as a penalty shot. Squirt penalties shall be 1 ½, Major penalties 4 minutes, and Misconducts will be 7 minutes.
- Pee Wee and Bantam minor penalties shall be 2 minutes, Major penalties 5 minutes, and misconducts will be 10 minutes.
FLYERS SKATE ZONE FOLLOWS THE USA HOCKEY ZERO TOLLERANCE POLICY. ANY ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLLERATED. OFFENDERS WILL BE REMOVED FROM RINK.
RULES
- All players must sign the game score sheet their first game. Players WILL NOT have to sign the score sheet after that game. If another team challenges a player, that player must sign the score sheet and the signature will be compared to the USA T-1 form. If the signature does not match, the team will forfeit any game the player participated in. All suspended players must sign the score sheet at the scorer’s table before the game. All players and coaches must be USA Hockey registered.
- All teams will be responsible for supplying to tournament officials credentials for the following items: team eligibility, player eligibility, and /or coach’s eligibility. These items may be needed to be shown in case of a challenge!
PLAYOFF SEEDING
- Points awarded as follows; 3 points for a win, 2 points for an OT or SO win, 1 point for OT or SO loss, and NO points for a loss in regulation.
TIE BREAKER IS AS FOLLOWS:
- Winner of head to head game between the two teams tied. This tiebreaker does not apply if three or more teams are tied.
- Best GOAL QUOTIENT. Total goals scored divided by the total goals against. The team with the greatest quotient will advance. A quotient involving dividing by ZERO (0) has higher standing than a quotient from dividing by any number other than ZERO. When two or more teams have no goals against and the quotient tie-breaker is required, the teams shall be ranked high to low in descending order of “goals for”
- Lowest goals against.
- Least number of penalties assessed. Each penalty shall count as one team penalty.
OVERTIME RULES FOR SEMI-FINALS AND CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
- If both teams are tied at the end of regulation play, a 10-minute 5 on 5-overtime period will be played to declare a winner. Teams will remain at the same end of ice as they did in the third period. Overtime will immediately follow regulation play! Overtime is SUDDEN VICTORY.

- If the teams remain tied after the 10-minute overtime period then there will be a shootout to declare a winner. Each team designates five shooters. Each shooter will have one shot. The visiting team will shoot first. The team who scores the most during the shootout will be declared the winner. If still tied the shootout will go to a second round and will be 1 VS 1, if the first player from the visiting teams scores and the first player from the home team does not the visiting team is declared the winner. This format will continue until a winner is declared! NOTE: you may not use the same shooters until every player on your team has had a shot opportunity!
- Mite semi and final: The semifinal games will each be 25 minutes long. Once both games are complete the two winning teams will play for the Championship on one side, and the two losing teams will play a bonus game on the other half. Each game will be 25 minutes.
